As we approach the end of 2025, Hand Papermaking proudly introduces our latest Year End Broadside, a reflection of the global connections that paper art inspires.
This year’s edition takes on a round shape, symbolizing the globe and the vibrant, interconnected community of Hand Papermaking.
For this special 2025 Broadside, we are honored to collaborate with Palestinian American poet and multidisciplinary artist Zeina Azzam, Palestinian American visual artist Samar Hussaini, renowned papermaking artist Sanaz Haghani, and other community supporters. We are delighted to share a glimpse into their creative process and some of the beautiful work in progress from this year’s project.
The embossed motif on the handmade paper, created by Samar Hussaini, reinterprets the traditional tatreez cross-stitch design representing the Cypress tree of Jerusalem. The pattern was freehand-stitched with a sewing machine onto water-soluble fabric; once the fabric dissolved, only the delicate threads remained. This intricate stitched image was then transferred to a printing plate and used to create the final print.
The broadside features Zeina Azzam’s poem “Colors for the Diaspora.” To celebrate its launch, we are hosting a special online webinar on November 19, where participants can hear directly from the artists and learn more about the making of this year’s broadside. [2025 Broadside Online Webinar]

Donations help us continue advancing both traditional and contemporary practices in the art of handmade paper, ensuring that Hand Papermaking can celebrate many more years of creative collaboration and community.
