Innovative Printmaking
on Handmade Paper

This juried collection features twenty distinctive prints with handmade paper. Numerous printmaking methods are represented, some traditional, some contemporary, some unquestionably innovative (e.g., printing from part of a saxophone!). Techniques include etching, woodblock, chine collé, linocut, digital inkjet, silkscreen, monotype, lithography, pochoir, aquatint, and letterpress. The handmade paper is inherent in the artwork. The paper techniques include watermarking, pulp painting, double couching, and overbeating; with fibers such as cotton, linen, abaca, hemp, kozo, flax, and sea grass.

A custom-made clamshell box houses the prints, each in a protective folder imprinted with the artist’s name. A handbound booklet contains statements from each artist and a commissioned essay by Eric Denker, Curator of Prints and Drawings at the Corcoran Gallery of Art and Senior Lecturer at the National Gallery of Art.

Artists in the portfolio: Lynn Amlie & Jon Lee, Denise Brady, Frank Brannon, Carmon Colangelo & Rick Johnson, Steven Daiber, Evelyn David & Melanie Yazzie, Georgia Deal, Amanda Degener & Susan Nees, Stephen Fredericks & Megan Moorhouse, Jean Gumpper & Tom Leech, Susan Mackin-Dolan, Roberto Mannino, Margaret Prentice, John Risseeuw, Lee Running, Joe Sanders, Shawn Sheehy, Giselle Simon, Peter Sowiski, Lynn Sures, and Cynthia Thompson.

Juried by: Gail Deery of Maryland Institute College of Art; and Claire Van Vliet, proprietor of Janus Press. Designed by Steve Miller. Edited by Dorothy Field and Michael Durgin.

Edition limited to 150 priced at $495. Add $15 for insured priority mail in the US; add $35 for airmail delivery outside the US.
